Adult Training Program

YOU DON'T WANT YOU TO MISS WHAT'S NEXT!

I can’t believe it! Our 2022 fall semester is about to end! My how time does fly when we’re having fun. With this semester, we are wrapping up another Basic Adult Training class. As always, it’s been fun learning together.

But the Basic Adult Training class is just the beginning of our journey together. There is so much more that we long to train and equip you for as you blaze the trail (or stay the course) of bringing quality reading and writing instruction to your educational community.

Next semester, which will begin in late January, we will be offering the next level Adult Training classes. Like our students, these classes will meet for 12 weeks. Instruction will include minimal reading, 1 hour of live instruction and mentoring, and some homework to practice and learn the skills we cover.

While our Basic Adult Training class teaches the writing steps and strategies contained in The Write Journey Writing Handbook, the second ATP class will teach “Blending Literature with Writing”. This is the next essential ingredient for teaching quality language arts to students of all ages and grades. Without getting into all the reasons why, trust me when I say, “NOTHING is more effective than teaching reading AND writing TOGETHER.” When you attend this class, you will understand why this is true.

This class is available for all adults who have already attended the Basic Adult Training class. If you have not yet attended the Basic class, that’s the place for you to start. After completing the Basic class, you will be eligible to attend any and all of our ongoing ATP classes. The cost for the class is $75 per month for four months (Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr). You’ll also receive a complimentary copy of The Write Journey Literature Guide, which is currently in the making. Like all of our products, this will be an excellent resource: concise and practical in every way, for students of all ages.

If you have not yet taken the Basic Adult Training class, we hope you will sign up to join the next class that will begin in late January. The cost for this class is the same: $75 per month for four months. The days and times for these classes will be determined after registration. We do our best to accommodate the scheduling needs of adults.

As always, please contact our home office to chat with someone who will be able to answer all your questions. info@thewritejourney.net or 916-696-1759

ADULT TRAINING- AN "OPPORTUNITY" YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS

When we talk about seizing opportunities, I become extra excited about our Adult Training Program. This is an opportunity for any and all adults to become better equipped and empowered to teach our simple, yet effective, writing methods to your educational community! The untapped potential of the homeschool community this year astounds me. Who would have thought that thousands of families would join the ranks of veteran homeschool families to embark on this amazing journey to provide QUALITY EDUCATION to your children . . . to our children. Parents all across our nation are engaging in their children’s educational journey in a variety of exciting ways.

At The Write Journey, we have been using tried and true writing methods for nearly 20 years, teaching students of every age and grade how to write excellent compositions, whether that is one excellent paragraph or excellent multi-paragraph essays. Our literature-based writing instruction is second to none, and we desire to partner with you, or another adult in your educational community to offer instruction and mentorship in teaching writing with a literature-based approach.

Of course you will find more information on our website, and we encourage you to call or send an email to our home office. We’d love to chat with you about finding a training option that will work for you.Typically, training takes place over a 12-week period, but we also offer a condensed/intensive training option, so do not hesitate to reach out to us for more information on those opportunities. You won’t find a more affordable training program for adults!

Your children deserve the best education, and that includes simplified instruction when possible, with individual personalized feedback. Feedback that not only affirms your children, but also gently instructs them how to become better thinkers and better writers. We hope you will allow us to partner with you to build a community of adults that work together to support each other as we educate and inspire our children to become great communicators.

HELPING YOU HELP YOUR STUDENTS

Here we are: one school year is ending, and a new school year is on the horizon! I’m not sure if that excites you or overwhelms you; my guess is a little of both. I’ve been there, and I get it.

We are here to partner with you as you work to bring quality language arts instruction to your children/educational community. We not only strive to educate students, but we also desire to provide practical instruction to adults.

As a business with well over 75 years of combined homeschool instruction along with over 40 years professional teaching experience, we understand the challenges and the excitement that comes with the territory. We love coming alongside adults who are passionate about pouring into their educational community.

For all of us, plans are in the works for the new school year. If providing quality writing is a priority for your educational community, we are here to help you make that happen. We are open to creating a plan that works for you and your community. Let’s talk about the content of instruction, the time and costs involved, the mentoring and support during training and beyond, etc.

Now is an ideal time to have a conversation about what your needs are and how we might assist you with those needs, so give us a call or send us an email right away. We would love to begin some training with you (or a member of your educational community) this summer.

Let us help you make the 2022-2023 school year the best ever.

ONE WAY TO GET RID OF "BORING" WHEN TEACHING

When you picture a “teacher” do you see yourself? Perhaps you do; perhaps you don’t. If a teacher is simply someone who teaches, then welcome to the club. Whoever you are, welcome.

As we take a glimpse at creativity, let’s consider creativity in the context of teaching. You may think, “Fine, as long as you give me a teacher’s manual.” While teacher’s manuals are often great resources, you don’t need a teacher’s manual to be a great teacher. May I suggest that your students may benefit more from some creativity than from one more teacher’s manual. Scrap the manual and think outside the box just a little. Here we go!

  •  Instead of using a grammar book, grab a real book and circle all the strong action verbs you can find in an entire chapter (or at least one whole page!). Then add your favorite strong action verbs to your personal list so you can use them again in the future . . . in your own writing.

  • Spend 15 minutes outside observing nature. Write down as many nouns (things) as you can find while outside. Now everyone compare your lists and cross off anything that someone else has on their list. The person with the most items left wins. (Be sure to think of a creative prize for the winner!)

  • Read a child’s book - or a single chapter of a chapter book - and write down every character that was mentioned. Who remembers the most characters?

  • After watching an excellent movie, in writing, describe your favorite scene. Be sure to use amazing adjectives and adverbs to help the reader visualize the scene.

These are just a few ideas to get your mind exploring the possibilities. Whether you teach in your own home with your own children, in a co-op with other homeschool students, in a traditional school with children of all ages, you get to be whatever kind of teacher you choose to be. Among other things, I challenge you to embrace creativity - in yourself and in your students. Sometimes, think outside the box. Learning will be fun when you do.

REAL CONNECTION WITH REAL PEOPLE

Connecting is one of life’s most important and meaningful endeavors, and I love connecting with the parents who are participating in our Adult Training Program. While this program is in its infancy, it has been birthed, and it is growing. Do you, like me, recall the days of cradling your infant in your arms and feeling intense joy . . . and overwhelming uncertainty? In some ways, that’s how I feel about this Adult Training Program: intense joy and overwhelming uncertainty. But just like my four babies grew to be beautiful independent humans, I have complete confidence that our Adult Training Program will mature into a program that will bless many families.

I am grateful to the moms who joined me this month on zoom to chat about how the writing methods they learned through our pilot training program are blessing them and their children. Amen! That’s what matters: equipping and empowering parents to support their children as they learn how to think well and write well. As we explore many options for moving forward with this program, I know one thing: connecting with these adults will be a priority. I need to know what you need to know. In this way we work together to bring quality language arts instruction to your family and to your educational community.

Let’s connect so I can answer your questions. With convention season upon us, I plan to host several Q & A zoom sessions to give parents more than a glimpse of this program. I know you need details, so I’ll do my best to provide those details when I meet with you. You have two options in April:

  •  Tuesday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. EST

  • Thursday, April 14 at 4:00 p.m. EST

(IMPORTANT: Always pay close attention to the time zone because we have families from every time zone participating in our online meetings and classes.)

Simply send me an email (kriscordell@thewritejourney.net) to let me know you’d like to be included in one or both of the scheduled meetings. We’ll connect using zoom, so I’ll send a zoom link about 30 minutes before the meeting time. Feel free to send me your questions in advance, or simply show up and join in the conversation as it occurs. I can’t wait to see you in April!

    On journey together, Kris
